Senior Counsel
 
Ms. Roland practices in the areas of commercial transactions, business law, commercial and residential real estate, and estate planning and probate.  This includes the drafting and negotiation of commercial contracts and leases, and the purchase and sale of commercial real estate, businesses, and assets. Ms. Roland also has knowledge and experience in the areas of construction law and eviction matters, including with respect to commercial and construction litigation, mechanic’s liens, and mechanic’s lien foreclosure actions. 
 
Education
 
Ms. Roland obtained her J.D. degree magna cum laude from the University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law, where she completed the Business Law Concentration and the Health Law Concentration. She served as the Executive Articles Editor of the Journal of Health Care Law and Policy, Vice President of the Student Animal Legal Defense Fund, and Student Outreach Chair for the Student Health Law Organization, and she was an active member of the Business Law Society. Ms. Roland earned her undergraduate degree cum laude from the University of Washington, majoring in Anthropology and minoring in Spanish.
 
Experience
 
Ms. Roland moved from Maryland to Colorado Springs in 2017 after graduating from law school. She has practiced law with the firm for more than seven years, during which time she has gained substantial experience in a number of substantive areas of the law. 
 
Ms. Roland’s experience in business law includes drafting and negotiating all aspects of commercial and residential real estate contracts, including commercial leases. She has also negotiated significant commercial deals and related transactions. Ms. Roland draws upon her litigation experience to inform how she drafts and negotiates complex business arrangements, taking into account how default provisions and remedies play out when a dispute arises, and prioritizing risk allocation. 
 
As a litigator, Ms. Roland has achieved successful outcomes in court, on appeal, and through arbitration and mediation. For example: 
 
-Ms. Roland arbitrated a case in which a builder was wrongfully terminated from the job. The builder was awarded the full amount sought from the homeowner, plus attorneys’ fees and costs. Ms. Roland then foreclosed the builder’s mechanic’s lien. She successfully defended the builder’s award and other cases on appeal. 
 
-In a dispute over earnest money after the buyer failed to appear at closing, Ms. Roland recovered the full amount of earnest money for her client plus attorneys’ fees and costs.

Ms. Roland is a member of the Colorado Bar Association, the El Paso County Bar Association, and the National Association of Women in Construction.
